January 2, 2009, Matthew Cochrane, Looking Ahead at 2009: Predictions for the New Year

I meant to include these at the end of my last post, but instead will list them here. In no particular order, and with a near 100% guarantee that the exact opposite will probably end up happening, here are my predictions for 2009:

Fidel Castro will die, ending his reign of terror in Cuba. Tyrannical Communist rule will continue on the island under his brother, Raul Castro.

Within the first few months of his presidency, Obama will target millions of dollars for “green jobs” but the earth will continue to cool and, by the end of the year, even fewer people will be concerned about the effects of man-made global warming.

Iran will announce it has a nuclear weapon.

President Barack Obama will respond strongly, even going as far as calling Iran’s actions “disappointing.”

The Pittsburgh Steelers will win the Super Bowl.

The economy will get worse before it gets better and, by the end of the year, inflation worries will trump all else in discussions about the economy.

Talks will intensify among self-proclaimed financial experts about the benefits of a single global monetary unit.

Despite more big signings, the New York Yankees will not win the World Series. The Anaheim Angels will.

The oceans will stop rising and the planet will begin to heal.

Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich will not spend more than one day in jail.

The Boston Celtics will repeat as national champions defeating the L.A. Lakers in a thrilling Finals.

Heath Ledger will posthumously win an Oscar for his role as the Joker in The Dark Knight.

Clint Eastwood will win the Oscar for directing for his new movie, Gran Torino.

Russia will invade a neighboring country.

Barack Obama will strongly condemn Russia’s aggressive military actions, even going as far as saying that he “disapproves” of Russia’s latest acts.

Al Franken will not be a Senator when the new Congress convenes.

The Lizard Master will use my incorrect predictions in this post as inflammatory fodder for an end-of-the-year blog post in 2009.

An edgy, smart and conservative website will emerge that will single-handedly change the internet’s political landscape.

The first pick in the NFL draft will be the Georgia Bulldogs’ QB, Matthew Stafford.

Lebron James will win the NBA’s MVP award. Dwyane Wade will finish a close second.

Islamic terrorists will successfully carry out an attack against a major European or American target.

Barack Obama will strongly denounce the terrorists’ actions, even going as far as calling them a “tragedy.”

Peyton Manning will win the NFL’s MVP award.

The new Harry Potter, X-Men and Transformers flicks will be the top grossing movies of 2009.

Well, that’s all I got. Agree? Disagree? Have any predictions of your own? Let’s hear them!

"The oceans will stop rising and the planet will begin to heal."

This is my personal favorite, although many of them made me smile.  One of my own personal predictions as well:

A baby will be born sometime in February that will be the most gorgeous baby girl ever!

Well at least we all know that there is a 100% chance one of these is correct.  And I know you don't want Franken to win, not because of politics, but because I will be the master prognosticator around these parts and this post would be a waste of time.

I also predict Peyton Manning will win the MVP, oh wait, that's already been announced!  Einstein's 20/20.  Must be hard to predict things that happen the same day.

Hey, a prediction is a prediction.  These predictions ranged from things that would happen from January to December in 2009.  Right nw I'm batting 1.000.  Don't be jealous.

For what it's worth, check out this story by Peter King on why Manning was so deserving of the MVP this season.  The part dealing with Peyton starts with the last paragraph of the first page and continues through the second page.  After reading this there was no doubt in my mind about which player deserved the MVP the most this season.

I am always amazed at people who think they know how  and when the the Lord will bring destruction upon mankind.. Look at all of the science info you choose if you have not conformed your mind to these two facts you are wasting your time: 1) prophecy is more powerful than the mind of man; 2) everything, everything, everything, is done by the Lord's will, in the Lord's way, in the Lord's time. The stats you promote concerning global warming come from people who, like those of an opposite opinion, are terrified of the word exact. Those of us who actually trust in the Lord know faith produces nothing else. So you and those like you continue to guess while we stand on what we know.

"An edgy, smart and conservative website will emerge that will single-handedly change the internet’s political landscape."

Now that really is something to look forward to, isn't it?  Do you have any further information on this one?

"Talks will intensify among self-proclaimed financial experts about the benefits of a single global monetary unit."

I just wanted to say I called this. To date Russia, China and, today, the U.N. has called for a new global currency reserve
