July 7, 2007, Matthew Cochrane, Saturday Matinee, 7/7/07: Cops Edition, Part 1

Since I recently graduated from the police academy I thought I would focus on various aspects of police work on this edition of Saturday Matinee.

The Good Guys

Bill Lamb reminds us who the good guys and the bad guys are:

Traffic Stop Accidents

More police officers are killed by traffic every year than by guns. Please drive safely and give emergency vehicles on the side of the road plenty of room. (All police officers in these incidents were miraculously okay.)

Here a state trooper looks up just in time to avoid being caught up in a high speed collision:

Fortunately this psychic cop was aware of his surroundings and knew the dangers of highway traffic stops:

Taser

The Taser is a wonderful tool that gives officers a chance to use non-lethal force in situations that might have become deadly before Tasers were available. Remember, just do what an officer asks you to do and you’ll be fine.

After a drunk driver wanted to fight on the side of the road this officer found his Taser to be pretty useful:

This prisoner did not want to comply with an officer’s requests. He regretted that decision:

This big boy would have been hard to bring down in a fight:

In Boynton Beach, FL, a female driver with a suspended license and an expired tag got pulled over but would not get off her cell phone or talk to the police officer. Bad move:

It would be comforting to believe that these examples are the uncommon exceptions but I have a strong feeling that people like this are everywhere. - Verbatim

The cops or the bad guys? - Matthew Cochrane

I should have been more specific I guess. I was trying to say that it would be comforting to think that there weren't quite so many bad guys out there for our police officers to encounter. The truth is that they seem to be everywhere and their numbers are growing steadily. I guess that police need to always be on the lookout for them. My prayers are for the safety of security professionals everywhere. - Verbatim

!!!GREAT VIDEOS!!! hope you get a TAZER soon! and you DONT hesitate using it...just make sure you get a good video using it...i will be praying for you as well as we do for all the other law enforcement as well as everyone else protecting our country. - mighty mike

I saw the video of the big guy getting tazerd before. When you get tazerd take it like a man and post the video! Not to make you worry, but I can't see how the pepper spray could be worse. Good luck! - Alex G.

Ali G, here's another article re the taser controversy in MC's home state re a gator not a lizard. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,297197,00.html. Tase me now, ya pays me later. - cdl

Turns out it might have been mostly a stunt. I'd like to say I called that one. - Ali G.

maybe "don't tase me bro" enters the vernacular - cdl
